No programming language has been as appealing to authors of hacker tools and malicious programs as Python . The hackers are thus following a general industry trend.

Python is currently the most popular programming language among hackers. This is the result of an analysis by the cyber security company Imperva. According to their analysis, more than 20 percent of all attacking tools and exploits found on Github are written in Python. In addition, up to 77 percent of all attacks on sites that are protected by Imperva, have been performed by Python-based tools.

Among attackers with Python affinity, it is above all the large and widespread content management systems and frameworks that serve as attack targets. According to the Imperva analysis, the most common target is Joomla, followed by Struts, WordPress and Drupal. Of course, because of their widespread use, they are also worthwhile destinations.

Not only with hackers: Python is generally quite popular

Depending on which statistics we want to believe, Python is either already the most popular programming language or at least well on its way to claiming this title soon. That Python is also popular with authors of malicious programs and hacking tools, therefore, not really surprised.
